Rescue Goes to School continues. This time, PT Berau Coal organizes the activity in Vocational High School 1 Berau. The activity is the form of company care to the Work Health and Safety (WHS) to the students community.
Chief Emergency Group PT Berau Coal, Hendry Achmad, stated that the safety and emergency preparedness campaign aims to provide understanding to the students on the importance of WHS in their daily life and in the real world of work.
Furthermore, he added, when a fire incident occurs and there is a victim on fire, the most important thing to do is not to be panic. Please remain calm in doing the rescue.
Then, during the victim rescue, please try to understand the situation and condition and observe any possibilities of evacuation to be taken into consideration while waiting for the assistance from the related authorized officials.
“The most important thing to do is to remain be careful because any mistake in the procedure will worsen the victim’s condition. Therefore, we must understand first the stage of burn injury to the victim’s body so that we can take any measure to help the victim according to the burn injury,” he explained to the students of Vocational High School 1 Berau.
Meanwhile, Vice Head of Public Relation Vocational High School 1 Berau, Siras, explained that he really supports the activities from PT Berau Coal. He said that In SMK 1, it has a productive material on WHS.
“It is useful to provide understanding to the students and to for their provision later in the world of work, where they will face the real life situation of disaster,” he added.
Bima Wijaya, a class XII student, admit that he received many lessons regarding WHS “Where we previously don’t know how to help the fire victim, we now have little knowledge to do something,” he said.
The same also applies to Sinta, class XII student; she received knowledge on how to extinguish fire using Portable Fire Extinguisher (APAR) and the importance of understanding WHS in the real world of work.
