Berau Coal Rescue Team for the first time following the Indonesian Fire and Rescue Competition. This event was held from 22nd to 29th November 2014 at the Pertamina Health Safety Environtment (HSE) Training Center in Sungai Gerong, Palembang. That was unexpected from eight categories are contested, the rescue team PKP2B of coal mining company won two gold medals and one silver medal.
The eight categories of the competition were Hydro Carbon Fire Fighting, High Angle Rescue, Under Water Rescue, Collapse Structure Search and Rescue, Structure Fire Fighting, Confined Space Rescue, Fireman Competency Test, and Fire Fighter Fitness Drill. Berau Coal Rescue Team went to first winner and won two golds for Hydro Carbon Fire Fighting and Firefighter Fitness Drill challenge and took out in the second position winning silver for Under Race Water challenge.
With two golds and one silver, it automatically delivered the rescue team from the company which hosted the 14th Indonesian Fire and Rescue Challenge 2011, as runner-up position or the second winner of the entire assessment challenges. Andi Henry Achmad as Emergency Rescue Section Head of Berau Coal asked to the Berau Coal rescue team to keep practicing regularly and not to be arrogant to this achievement as well as down to earth.
Henry added it is the first time participation in this competition. Some members of Berau Coal rescue team seemed still lacking of confidence during competition and owned equipments on several challenges. But Alhamdulillah, Berau Coal rescue team was able to perform better than favored teams for specific challenge categories.
Rescue teams who are in a race of this competition should not be seen by other rescue teams, so it completely relies on the individual ability of the rescue team. This is exactly what distinguishes between Indonesian Fire and Rescue Competition and Indonesian Fire and Rescue Challenge. Moreover, the race on challenge is held annually, while the competition is not every year.
H. Gatot Budi Kuncahyo as Head of Coal Mining Engineering of PT Berau attended the closing ceremony of Indonesian Fire and Rescue Competition said that he is proud to Berau Coal rescue team that could sweep two gold medals and one silver medal. He expected with the rapid advancement of technologies at the mining rescue world could be a concern of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) as Central Government, and always played an active role in the community and participate in the following race to improve the ability of the rescue team.
“Berau Coal rescue team won a prize of one gold medal compared to the rescue team who was honoured as the great champion in this competition,” added Gatot. The most interesting in the Hydro Carbon Fire Fighting race was putting out a burning fuel tank which was too risky for the most of oil companies. However, Berau Coal as a mining company was lucky to sweep the gold medals on this category.
“Winning two gold medals in Firefighter Fitness Drill race was recorded for the best time of 18 minutes, 10 minutes different from the first team and Berau Coal rescue team was able to beat the favored teams which always won those categories. It is because our rescue team has been trained by marines,” Gatot said when he was at his office yesterday (1/12/14).
In the third Championship of this competition, Berau Coal rescue team competed with 12 rescue teams from other companies such as PT Adaro, PT Freeport Indonesia, PT Bukit Asam, PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals, PT Total E&P Indonesia, PT Indominco Mandiri, PT Meares Soputan Mining, PT Dharma Henwa, PT Petrosea, PT Payton Energy, PT Pertamina 1 and PT Pertamina 2.
Overview Indonesian Fire and Rescue Competition held by the Indonesian Council Fire and Rescue Challenge / Competition in cooperation with the National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS) and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is for an evaluation of Indonesian Fire and Rescue Challenge. The first event was held in July 2014 in PUSLATKAR CIRACAS, Jakarta.
